Brass dial movement engraved "Maximin Cattin du fort du Plasne an Comté", 18th century, in a molded and patinated oak case, with its two weights and surveyor's chain balance with lead weights. H. case 223.5 cm Maximin Cattin and his brother Jean-Baptiste were recognized master clockmakers in Fort-du-Plasne (Grandvaux, Haut-Jura), and their reputation extended beyond the region's borders. In 1732, the town of Beaune signed a contract with Maximin Cattin to repair the town clock. Cattin had also supplied Beaune with the Chartreuse clock. At the time, clockmaking was thriving in the region, with many dynasties of clockmakers (Mayet, Jouffroy, Martinez, Monnet, Panier, etc.).
