[DIDOT]. DÉMOSTHÈNE. Demosthenis Philippicae, Paris : Denis-Jean Aumont, 1754. In-12 paperback (16 x 10 cm) of 62 p., headbands, ornamented letters, culs-de-lampe, text in Greek characters. Muted blue paper cover, lower guard laminated. Stapled copy, signature on the front cover, one (lower) endpaper present, angular folds, paper barely browned, overall, nice condition. One of the very first publications of François Didot, bearing for the completion of printing the mention " De l'imprimerie de Didot. 1754. " It was on January 31, 1754 that François Didot (ca. 1689-1757) was received as a printer, after buying out the workshop of the widow of Claude I Simon. After apprenticing with his cousin André Pralard, he was admitted as a bookseller on November 14, 1713 and became a syndic in 1753 (cf. Fouché, Pascal, Péchoin, Daniel and Schuwer, Philippe (eds). Encyclopedic Dictionary of the book, I, 2002, p. 776).
