[SAND, George]. BARRÉ, Léopold. Autograph letter signed to G - Lot 218
[SAND, George]. BARRÉ, Léopold. Autograph letter signed to George Sand. May 31, 1876. 2 p. (13 x 20 cm.). Very good condition. Nice statement from the actor to the writer, one year after he played in a play that had inspired George Sand. "Porel is right, your Antoine and Sedaine's have done me a lot of good, besides I like your roles so much, I like them, and they suit my nature so much that it seems natural to me that I should be successful in them. Yes, dear Madam, it is to you and to your talent that I owe the little I am. Ah, why should this late happiness not be shared by my poor wife! The year before (1875), he had played this character (Antoine), in Sedaine's play "The Philosopher in Knowledge", performed in 1765. George Sand had imagined a play following that of Sedaine (Le mariage de Victorine). Provenance: Debauve Collection with his stamp on the back.
