COLL. Terminologie horlogère I. Established with the collabo - Lot 172
COLL. Terminologie horlogère I. Established with the collaboration of the Swiss and French watchmaking schools, Geneva: Annuaire du commerce suisse Chapalay Mottler S. A., S. d. [1926]. In-12 of 39 p., 21 figures in the text, 3 plates. Paperback, cloth spine, printed cover. Nice copy. Interesting work, at a time when it is necessary to unify the terms specific to watchmaking. Indeed, "with the progress of mechanical manufacturing imposing a close collaboration of watchmakers and mechanics, with the development of electric watchmaking and the industry of counters and recorders, it becomes necessary to fix a watchmaking terminology and to unify the terms proper to watchmaking." (p. 3). This terminology had to meet the following conditions: "1° To be in conformity with the language of the physicist as regards the oscillatory phenomena which are at the base of the measurement of time; 2° To be in conformity with the language of the mechanic [...] as regards the transmission of the movements [...]; 3° To substitute, as regards the terms special to the clock industry, for the multiplicity of names used until now, for the same object, the one which defines it better." (p. 3). Contents: I. Introduction // II. Vibratory motion // III. Driving force // IV. Gears // V. Cogwheel // VI. Winding and time setting mechanisms // VII. Escapements // VIII. The regulating organ // IX. The case // X. Table of units // XI. Notations and symbols.
