[Autograph letter]. BATAILLE, Frederic. Letter written and signed by his hand. Issy, May 30, 1891, to Princess Marie-Laetitia Bonaparte (great-niece of Napoleon I), founder of the "Nouvelle Revue internationale". 1 page in-8 (11 x 18 cm), He proposes two articles on his "illustrious friend, Josephin Soulary [who] was an essentially Latin genius, and as such, it is not useless to speak about him again to the readers of your beautiful review". He asks him to send a n° of the review "to M. Chenavard in Lyon, the great painter of Lyon, president of the committee which opens a subscription for a monument to Soulary; to Mrs. Soulary...; to Mrs. de Banville...". Marie-Lætitia Bonaparte-Wyse (1831-1902) was the grand-niece of Napoleon I and the grand-daughter of Lucien Bonaparte and Alexandrine de Bleschamp, wife of Count Frederic Joseph de Solms. She was a woman of letters, a poet, the founder of several magazines and a journalist. She was also nicknamed "La Muse des Alpes". The poet Joséphin Soulary died in Lyon on March 28, 1891. The painter of Lyon origin Paul Chenavard (1807-1895) was throughout the 19th century a central figure in the artistic life. Frédéric Bataille (1850 - 1946) was born in Mandeure in the Doubs. Poet, mycologist, his literary career was made in Paris before he returned to Besançon in 1905.
