[Inauguration of the statue of President Carnot in Angouleme - Lot 175
[Inauguration of the statue of President Carnot in Angouleme. Angoulême, ca. May 2, 1897]. Commemorative photographic album composed of an engraved frontispiece of the monument of Sadi Carnot followed by 29 albumen prints and 12 reproductions, of different sizes, all mounted on cardboard, under a serpant and separated by a captioned leaflet. Large in-4°. Full jansenist blue morocco, double gilt fillet on the edges, very ornate covers, all edges gilt. This monument was ordered by the department of Charente and financed by public subscription. It was inaugurated on May 2, 1897 by J. DARLAN, then Minister of Justice and Cults. More than 25,000 people attended the event. The photographs present the portraits of the main officials, then of the inauguration (note 4 reproductions of photos), then of François CARNOT (1872-1960) son of President CARNOT, whose mother's family was originally from Charente, Raoul VERLET (the sculptor author of the monument), DEGLANE the architect, the panoramic view of Angoulême (reproduction), and buildings and places of the city (city hall, cathedral, Maison Louis XIII, suburbs of L'Houmeau, Saint-Cybard and Saint-Martin, the Abbey of the Crown). Some rubbing to the binding. Beautiful album however. Inauguration of the monument raised to the memory of President Carnot in Angoulême on May 2, 1897. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, 1897. In-4° of 30 ff. (recto only). Frontispiece. Paperback. Some rare foxing, only the last booklet is cut.
