CARNOT, Hippolyte. Of a School of Administration. Versailles, E. Aubert, 1878. In-8° of 47 pp. Blue half-maroquin, long spine, long title and year gilt, gilt head, cover preserved. (Thierry, successor of Petit-Simier). Copy enriched with the signed autograph manuscript of the first chapter (pp. 3 to 12). 14 ff. in-8° recto only. The ancestor of the E.N.A. As early as 1848, Hippolyte Carnot, then Minister of Public Instruction, had the idea of creating a School of Administration, responsible for the training of government administrators. A decree of creation was drafted (decree of March 8, 1848), but the school, installed in the former building of the Collège du Plessis, was closed in August 1849, a few months after its inauguration, when Carnot left his post as minister.
