CARNEAUX, Nicolas Prou [or Proust] of. De obsidione urbis Ru - Lot 115
CARNEAUX, Nicolas Prou [or Proust] of. De obsidione urbis Rupellæ. Parisiis, Sumptibus Authoris. Excudebat Melchior Mondiere, 1631. In-8° of 1 f. bl, [16], 254 [i.e. 256] pp. 2 ff. bl. Printer's mark on title. Full ivory vellum, smooth spine with the title in ink dated "1627-1631". (Binding of the period). Unique and rare edition. On the siege of La Rochelle (1626-1627). Nicolas Prou des Carneaux (? - 1640), man of war, controller of the fortifications of Picardy and Ile-de-France, was governor of the pages of the Petite Écurie and then of the pages of the Duke of Orleans, and appointed historiographer of the king in 1611, his work on the siege of La Rochelle (1627-1628) being written in the functions of his office. Was he an ancestor of the Carnots of Nolay? This would justify the presence of the copy in the family library. Author's proof [?] abundantly annotated with multiple corrections probably intended for a second edition that will not see the light of day. Enriched with 2 handwritten leaves from the period. Pagination error: pp. 207-208 repeated. A few accidents without seriousness to the binding, vellum cuts to the boards without missing. Mottling.
