MAGNIN, Antoine. Observations on the intermittent springs of - Lot 94
MAGNIN, Antoine. Observations on the intermittent springs of the Monts-Jura. Besançon, Dodivers, 1909. In-8° of 66 pp, frontispiece, 27 figs. in the text, errata flyleaf. Paperback. Observations mainly on the Fontaine-Ronde du Touillon near Pontarlier. Magnin first lists the intermittent or periodic fountains that have been indicated in the French Jura: the Fontaine-Ronde du Touillon, between the Hôpitaux and Pontarlier, the source of the Moulinet at Syam near Champagnole, the springs of Noire-Combe near Cinquétral and finally the Fontaine des Merveilles, near the abbey of Hautecombe. He then goes on to study the Fontaine- Ronde du Touillon and points out the singular variability of the regime of this spring which becomes continuous, periodic or intermittent, in its whole or its various parts, according to the variations of its flow, that is to say, according to whether one observes it in high or low water, or in medium water. Magnin also gives information on the other intermittent springs: that of the Moulinet, those of Cinquétral, eight in number, placed next to each other, on the same horizontal line, and finally that of Merveilles which belongs to the Mont du Chat, an obvious extension of the Jura. 1st cover detached.
