My memories. Album amicorum of a young woman named Andrée, w - Lot 35
My memories. Album amicorum of a young woman named Andrée, who finishes her medical studies. Besançon, February to October 1918 and Morez, January-February 1919. In-8° of 60 unnumbered sheets including 17 handwritten pages in ink and 11 drawings in pencil, pen or watercolour. Bound in full black crushed chagrin, cold fillet on the boards, gilt roulette on the covers, steel clasp, all edges gilt. Charming album amicorum bisontin dating from the end of the 1st World War. Andrée, the young woman who owns the album, must have been close to the Russian or Polish emigrants who fled the Bolshevik revolution because some of the letters are signed OLGA, doctor WENZKOWSKA and her feminist husband ("Be proud and know how to proudly defend your rights as a daughter, sister, woman, member of society... so often wronged") who exhort her to "love the Fatherland", and evoke the assassination of the Russian imperial family. In this period of the end of the conflict, the poems and illustrations are for the most part patriotic. The poems are by SULLY-PRUDHOMME, LEVAILLAND, VALLANDRÉ, GREGH, MUSSET, others probably unpublished: "In front of a portrait of the Tsarevich" signed LORALLYS, "Sword and Lancet" by Colonel du FRESNEL, "What were you writing on these tablets? "by Emilie MERMET, some of the drawings are signed "L M", "M. L. Meinier", "M. L. Michaud", "Jeanne Valot", "Madeleine Coudrier" (captioned "We are spinding for our soldiers!"), "A. HARTMANN" and "E[milie] M[ERMET]". Rare foxing. Some wear and tear.
