Emmanuel TEMPLEUX (Arbois, 1871-1957) - Lot 139
Emmanuel TEMPLEUX (Arbois, 1871-1957) Hilly landscape Oil on panel signed lower right 79 x 114.5 cm on view Born in Arbois in 1871, Emmanuel Jean Templeux was a painter of Jura landscapes. He was curator of the Musée Sarret de Grozon in Arbois from 1933 to 1957. He described himself as a disciple of Auguste Pointelin, with whom he maintained a correspondence. "Pointelin revealed to me the Jura of the first plateaus, so melancholy and poetic, when the twilight hour that the master favored casts its diffuse light over nature. I've wandered through deep, mysterious ravines, crossed clear-flowing streams, flush rocky outcrops alternating with boxwood scorched by autumn. I tore at the thorny bushes, I inhaled the perfume of its strong scents, it impregnated my whole being, it penetrated me, intoxicated me, and, it is to the master that I owe these strong sensations, it is he who awakened them in me" writes Templeux in an article entitled "Chez Pointelin", in the magazine Franche-Comté Monts-Jura, n° 67, February 1925. Emmanuel Templeux took part in exhibitions in Paris and Franche-Comté, notably at the Salon des Annonciades in Pontarlier between 1934 and 1950. An exhibition was devoted to him by the Sarret museums in Grozon and Lons-le-Saunier in 2008.
