Paris, Nicolas Chesneau, 1574. In-8° of [8], 124 pp. [Bound at the end:] [CUJAS (Jacques)]. Pro Jo. Monlucio episcopo et comite Valentino Diensi præscriptio adversus libellum quendam nuper editum Zachariæ Furnesteri subdititio nomine. Lyon, Pierre Roussin, 1575. In-8°, 31 pp. Marbled fawn calf, 5-ribbed spine, red morocco t.p., double gilt fillet on covers, gilt roulette on edges, red speckled edges (Binding of the period). 2 rare pieces. Jean de MONLUC, bishop of Valence and Die, political advisor to CATHERINE de MEDICIS, had carried out numerous missions abroad, including the one that enabled the future HENRI III to become king of Poland in 1573. CUJAS defends him against Hugues DONEAU (alias Zacharie Furnester). Ex-libris ms probably of the period, with a marginal annotation. For Choisnin: Adams, C-1462 [title slightly different]. Minor defects to binding, traces of moisture to first few pages, not serious. A good, rare copy.
