Jean-Louis VIOLLIER- VERNET (1778-1840) founded Viollier & Cie in Livorno, Italy. He launched the first marine insurance company in Italy, and was a member of the Diet in 1815 and 1822. In 1817, in charge of negotiations at the Court of Rome, he obtained a Papal Bull (1819) transferring the Catholic communes of Geneva from the diocese of Chambéry (King of Sardinia) to that of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg.
