[Manuscript]. BELLEROCHE (Salomon [?] Chastelau de). Annual - Lot 71
[Manuscript]. BELLEROCHE (Salomon [?] Chastelau de). Annual observations on bees. [1805-1820]. [Preceded by a compilation of texts on beekeeping]. Manuscript in fine, legible handwriting, 130 pp. in-4°, paper ruled. Chipped fawn basane, long flowered spine, red morocco t.p., double cold fillet on boards, gilt on edges (Binding of the period). The manuscript, as indicated by a pencil note, comes from "M. le Comte de Belleroche, au château de Limas, près de Villefranche sur Saône. The manuscript is his grandfather's." The author of the manuscript would therefore probably be Baron Salomon Chastelleu de Belleroche (1781-1838), Sous-préfet of Roanne. [We would like to thank Mr. Benoit Diesbach for the details he provided on this provenance]. The compilation includes texts from Nouvelle Maison rustique 1721; Manière de faire la cire d'après le procédé de Beville [published in 1804]; Ruches à hausses by J. Varembey [published in 1811], with the compiler's criticisms. Reversing the copy, on 46 pp. non ch., are reading notes (Richardson, Stuart, Voyages de Pallas, Robertson, Ferguson, Livres de Voyages, Histoire, etc.), with, presumably, the list of works in the library. This is followed by a list of deputies to the Convention and their votes during the trial of Louis XVI, then a list of pears from the St Didier estate that bore fruit in 1815 [?], and finally a dispute concerning a spring and the digging of a well. Two twisted braces to spine, binding rubbed and worn. Fresh interior. Rare manuscript on beekeeping under the Empire and Restoration.
