BOURDIN, Docteur E. L'Œuvre de Jacques Prévost. Franc-Comtoi - Lot 80
BOURDIN, Docteur E. L'Œuvre de Jacques Prévost. Franc-Comtois Painter, Sculptor & Engraver in the 16th century. Besançon, Dodivers, 1908. In-8°, 90 pp. XI h.-t. plates. Paperback. Envoi de l'auteur "à mon excellent confrère et ami le dr Ledoux. Affectionate homage. J. P. Bourdin". With Dr. Ledoux's bookplate engraved by Gaston Coindre. The copy is enriched with a very interesting autograph letter signed by the author to the same Dr. Ledoux, 4 pp. in-12, about the work: "Here is what Godard [Charles-Anatole Godard (1860-1912), author born in Gray] wrote to me: "Please accept my thanks for sending me your conscientious and interesting work on J. Prévost. Prévost. You are one of those who know how to advance science, and your study will be justly noticed. "Godard's lengthy reasoning on the origin of the Prévosts follows: "Doubt is therefore no longer possible. [...] So the Prévosts, painters, were originally from Pesmes and came to Gray in the 16th century, just as the Devosges later came from who knows where. ". That, my dear Ledoux, is the story of the Prévosts, told in two words by Godard. They all come from Pesmes, even Bernardin, born in Gray according to Gauthier, who calls himself "Prévost Pesmensis". From there, they spread throughout the province, due to the struggle for life, a problem as difficult in the 16th century as it is today. [...]"
