Album amicorum of J. J. JUSSERAND. Tubingen, June 9, 1784 [- - Lot 91
Album amicorum of J. J. JUSSERAND. Tubingen, June 9, 1784 [-1786-1788]. Manuscript of 366 pp. [80 signatures, the remaining pages blank]. Brown marbled calf, spine with 4 fleuronné bands, t.p. in fawn morocco, wide framing on the boards with a large central iron, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt edges (Binding of the period). JUSSERAND was a student from Franche-Comté who studied philosophy at the University of Tübingen. The date 1784 is found on most of the well-wishes, religious quotations and quotes from ancient authors, in Latin, German and French; in addition, one note is dated Strasbourg, August 24, 1784, by G. D. LALANCE of Montbéliard, some are dated 1786, in Birstein, where we find the signature of his "dear cousin Peugeot" and of Baron von DUNGERN, a handwritten note to the title specifying that JOSSERAND was cousin and godfather of Jacques PEUGEOT, who died in Audincourt in 1817. Other words are from Stuttgart, or Offenbach (such as 1786 by RAMUZ of Neuchâtel). 18 Indian ink silhouettes accompany their words. The majority of these handwritten notes are in Gothic script; a table at the end in Latin script identifies most of the signatures. Faded binding, interesting album.
