[VILLERS-LE-LAC/MORTEAU, 1944. WATCHMAKING EXHIBITION]. Town - Lot 539
[VILLERS-LE-LAC/MORTEAU, 1944. WATCHMAKING EXHIBITION]. Town of Lac-ou-Villers (Doubs): Guide et souvenir de l'exposition horlogère et artisanale organisée par les élèves des cours du soir du 6 au 14 mai 1944, Morteau: Imprimerie André Genre, 1944. In-12, 36 pp. Paperback, illustrated cover. A good copy.
Rare pamphlet printed in Morteau during the war, in 1944. This exhibition was held while the area was still under German occupation and the Vichy regime was still in place. The spirit of the exhibition and the rhetoric of this guide bear witness to this (cf. preface by Aimé Schmuck and "Les enseignements de cette exposition" by André Domat, faithful to Petainist morality).
Interesting developments on the origins and local development of watchmaking, on the Binétruy, Joriot and Jaccard firms. On Hippolyte Parrenin, Virgile Cupillard, Ulysse Anguenot, etc. The town was still called Lac-ou-Villers before changing its name in 1948.
