A very good copy, text browned, hole in the laces missing. Memoirs of Olivier de la Marche, a memorialist linked to Pontarlier. Indeed Olivier de la Marche spent the first years of his childhood in Pontarlier, which was not without influence on the future memoirist. "During his stay in Pontarlier, and in the course of the year 1435, two things in particular struck his vivid imagination. The first was the arrival in this town of Jacques II de Bourbon, Count of the March, King of Hungary, Sicily and Jerusalem, who was on his way to Besançon to finish his days in a convent of Cordeliers. The master of the school where Olivier was learning took him to see this unusual sight in this good little town and the child chronicler was very impressed: he details in his Memoirs the slightest ornament of the royal costume. The second event he recalls is the arrival in Pontarlier of the herald who came to bring the good news of the peace of Arras; the joy was general, celebrations followed and the schoolchildren of Pontarlier were given perhaps several days off. Olivier did not forget them." (cf. (Henri Stein. "Olivier de La Marche, historian, poet and Burgundian diplomat", 1888). It was at the castle of Joux that the father of the young Olivier, Philippe de la Marche, had been called in 1434, to govern in the name of Guillaume de Vienne, lord of Saint Georges, threatened in his domains by the incursions of certain small German lords. Brunet, III, 783. These memoirs make him an important witness to life at the Burgundian ducal court as well as to the struggle for Flanders between the kingdom of France and the Habsburg dynasty at the end of the 15th century.
