The historian Nicolas-Antoine LABBEY DE BILLY (1753-1825) was
preacher in Versailles (1786), then a member of the Besançon commune
(1790); he refused to take the ecclesiastical oath and went into exile.
returned to France in 1809, where he became professor of history at the Faculté
des lettres de Besançon. Genealogical work of more than 320 families of the
rectors and students who passed through this university, i.e. almost the entire
