GRAFFIGNY, Henri de. Manual of the amateur watchmaker and me - Lot 175
GRAFFIGNY, Henri de. Manual of the amateur watchmaker and mechanic. A practical guide for the use of watch and clock repairers and ironers, apprentice watchmakers and students of watchmaking schools, mechanical enthusiasts, and all persons interested in chronometry who wish to know and be able to build and repair the main clock and small mechanical mechanisms themselves. The book was adopted by the City of Paris and its municipal libraries and is illustrated with 225 explanatory figures drawn by the author. New edition, Paris : Hachette et Cie, S. d. [1894]. In-12 of 4, XII, 324 p., 6 plates and 225 figures in the text. Full beige cloth, spine decorated, board decorated with framing nets. A nice copy. From the "Bibliothèque des professions industrielles, commerciales et libérales". In the first chapters (1 to 6), after having briefly retraced the history of the definitions and measurements of time, the author proposes a very advanced treatise on the knowledge necessary for the watchmaker, both general and technical (arithmetic, geometry, drawing, mechanics, physics, chemistry, description of the organs of chronometric instruments, tools, alloys, the work of the watchmaker). In chapters 7 to 10, he addresses himself to amateurs, becomes more generalist and describes briefly the work of wood and metals and the way to maintain and repair one's watch or alarm clock. With a "Vocabulary of technical terms" and a "Watchmaking bibliography".
