[MANUSCRIT]. MARMIER, Xavier. Autograph manuscript signed, 4 - Lot 55
[MANUSCRIT]. MARMIER, Xavier. Autograph manuscript signed, 4 pages in-8 (13.5 x 21 cm.) in a very tight handwriting (about 100 lines), titled "First chapter. Fribourg en Brisgau", and framed in the margin the mention : "Beginning of a new novel". Some erasures and additions. Beginning of the first chapter of the novel "Histoire d'un pauvre musicien", which starts in Freiburg im Breisgau and which was published by Hachette in 1866. This novel "is the story of an honest, candid and shy artist from the Breisgau who finds himself by chance involved in various scenes of the Revolution, from 1793. As always, Marmier brings his characters to life in foreign countries, whose language and customs he knows so well. It is in Freiburg im Breisgau that he places the first scenes of his story. The small town has a friendly and attractive appearance. Marmier describes it with all the more talent that he took care to return there to compose his book." (cf. Estignard, A. Xavier Marmier, sa vie, ses œuvres, 1893, p. 187).
